Reference electrode
This electrode is designed for use with any mono electrode and is normally used in the laboratory.

  • Ag/AgCl single junction
  • Refillable

A Silver-Silver Chloride Single Junction reference electrode is most commonly used, but it has a potassium chloride salt-bridge, which is saturated with silver chloride. This saltbridge works well in most samples, but not biological samples containing proteins or related materials. Even though the concentration of silver ions is low (about 0,0001 M), it is sufficient to react with proteins and produce an insoluble precipitate in the porous 'liquid junction' structure of the electrode. This then causes errors in the pH measurement due to the development of substantial 'liquid junction' potentials across this plug of precipitate.
